چکیده

An effective method for the design of fuel-optimal transfers in twoand threebody dynamics is presented. The optimal control problem is formulated using calculus of variation and primer vector theory. This leads to a multi-point boundary value problem (MPBVP), characterized by complex inner constraints and a discontinuous thrust profile. The first issue is addressed by embedding the MPBVP in a parametric optimization problem, thus allowing a simplification of the set of transversality constraints. The second problem is solved by representing the discontinuous control function by a smooth function depending on a continuation parameter. The resulting trajectory optimization method can deal with different intermediate conditions, and no a priori knowledge of the control structure is required. Test cases in both the twoand three-body dynamics show the capability of the method in solving complex trajectory design problems.

Thrust - Limited Optimal Three - Dimensional Spacecraft Trajectories

Several optimal three-dimensional orbital transfer problems are solved for thrust-limited spacecrafts using collocation and nonlinear programming techniques. The solutions for full nonlinear equations of motion are obtained where the integrals of the free Keplerian motion in three dimensions are utilized for coasting arcs. In order to limit the solution space, interior-point constraints are use...

An Optimization of Orbital Transfer for Spacecrafts with Finite-thrust Based on Legendre Pseudospectral Method

This paper presents the use of Legendre pseudospectral method for the optimization of finite-thrust orbital transfer for spacecrafts. In order to get an accurate solution, the System’s dynamics equations were normalized through a dimensionless method. The Legendre pseudospectral method is based on interpolating functions on Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto (LGL) quadrature nodes. This is used to transfor...

Low Thrust Sub-Optimal Transfer Trajectories to the Moon

In the present research the problem of transferring a spacecraft from the Earth to the Moon with minimum fuel consumption is considered. The Two-Body model is assumed to be a valid mathematical representation for the dynamics during the transfer. The spacecraft starts in a Low Earth Orbit and then goes to a Polar Orbit around the Moon. In previous publications, impulsive and optimal low thrust ...
